As the holidays are approaching, now is the perfect time to take some time out of that busy shopping schedule or give up that afternoon of football in order to give back to your community.

Here are a few places in Central Florida that will really appreciate your help this holiday season.

Community Service Center of Central Florida - an organization that is committed to helping families through programs such as emergency assistance, clothing drives, and family counseling programs. Community volunteers can donate food, clothes, “adopting” a family, and tutoring kids after school.

Florida Hospital Volunteer Services - One of the largest hospital systems in the state, Florida Hospital is accepting volunteers who would like to help and assist patient during their time of recovery. Opportunities can include interacting with patients at the bedside, helping visitors, working in the gift shop and many more. Fill out a volunteer application today.

Harvest Time International - their mission is to demonstrate God’s love by reaching out and touching the lives of people in practical ways, by empowering this generation with the tools to become successful in areas of life, and where people find help for now and hope for the future. Perishable food are needed for this holiday season.

Shoe Harvest - The mission of Shoe Harvest is simple - to provide new shoes to needs children in the Central Florida area. Shoe Harvest works with anybody who wants to donate new shoes: churches, civic groups, businesses, etc. We take in the shoes and identify organizations that can in turn provide the shoes to children in need. Organizations include schools, Head Start centers, abuse centers, homeless centers and social workers.

Dawn’s Heartfelt Corner - Among the many other volunteer opportunities that this organization has year round, Dawn O’ Brien and a group of volunteers will be passing out cards, poetry, and assisting the elderly in nearby nursing homes this holiday season. Come out and contribute to this worthwhile cause.

Try to take some time out this holiday season for your neighbors and friends around you. Get out there and give some of yourself to others.

Aaron and Amanda Crabb are performing at the Abundant Life Church of God in Lakeland, FL on October 27th, 2008. They will also be playing in various locations throughout Florida throughout this week. Updates of their tour will be posted as soon as it becomes available.

Their latest album After the Rain features both Aaron and Amanda Crabb. With songs such as To Know You are Near and Thou art Worthy Aaron and Amanda brings a contemporary gospel flavor to today’s Christian music genre.

Kairos Training Program for Christian Leaders

Church in the Son has a three semester Christian leadership program called Kairos. This program allows growing Christians to fully mature and enhance their relationship with Jesus Christ. The purpose of this training program is to make your personal ministry to become much more effective.

In Kairos you will be trained and equipped to:

Develop intimacy with God.
Deepen your walk with God.
Know and understand the Word of God.
Mature in and share your faith.
Discover your gifting.
Develop a stronger prayer life.
Develop character and integrity.
Discover your destiny in God.
Walk in the supernatural.
Serve in ministry.

Sessions are to be held at Church in the Son on Sundays from 4pm - 5pm. There is no registration fee to join this program.

Big Daddy Weave is going to be playing at the Brevard Community College on October 31, 2008. They are in the middle of their What Life Would Be Like tour and are performing with Rush of Fools and Jason Gray. The band is composed of Mike Weaver(lead singer), Jay Weaver(bass, vocals), Jeremy Redmon(guitar, vocals), Jeff Jones(drums), Joe Shirk(saxophone, keyboards). General Admission to the event is $12.00.

Relient K will be performing at the House of Blues on Monday October 27, 2008 at 6:00pm. Orlando will be one of their stops in the Uncle Fest Tour. Their last two albums, mmhmm and Five Score and Seven Years Ago are well known to Christian punk rock fans. Both albums have peaked in the Top 15 of the Billboard 200. The Greater Orlando Christian Film Festival [10/16 - 10/23]

The Orlando Christian Film Festival is running from October 16-23. The event features 12 movies and 80 showings and serve as a perfect outreach opportunity to those you love.
